The automotive industry in Indonesia is still showing positive momentum amidst the uncertainty of global economic conditions. This is reflected in a number of domestic automotive manufacturers who are realizing their investments to increase their production capacity in an effort to meet the increasing needs in the domestic and export markets. "Many multinational companies in the country, including those in the automotive sector, still see Indonesia as having promising prospects for running manufacturing production," said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the Opening of the New Factory of PT Daimler Commercial Vehicles Manufacturing Indonesia (PT DCVMI) in the Delta Silicon 8 Industrial Area, Cikarang, West Java, Tuesday (10/6). The Minister of Industry explained that this momentum is a strong signal that investment in the automotive industry sector is still ongoing and Indonesia is still a strategic destination for the development of the motor vehicle industry, especially in welcoming the era of environmentally friendly vehicles. "They see great opportunities from the domestic market that continues to grow, as well as Indonesia's strategic position as a production hub for global market export purposes," he said. The Ministry of Industry expressed its appreciation to PT DCVMI for successfully building its new factory. In addition, appreciation is also given to Daimler Truck AG which has given its trust to Indonesia as one of the production bases for Mercedes-Benz buses and trucks in Asia. "The construction of this new factory is a strategic step and a real commitment of Daimler Truck AG and PT DCVMI in strengthening the automotive industry sector in Indonesia, while also reflecting confidence in the positive prospects of Indonesia as a global commercial vehicle industry hub. We are optimistic that Daimler can become a better and bigger company together with Indonesia," said Agus. It should be noted that Mercedes Benz has been produced in Indonesia since it was first produced in 1978 through PT Star Motor Indonesia, until the formation of PT DCVMI in 2019. This is one of the commercial vehicle brands that has shown its commitment to developing the automotive industry in Indonesia "With a production capacity of 5,000 units per year, PT DCVMI is able to enter the top five commercial vehicle production of trucks and buses in Indonesia," said the Minister of Industry. This shows that Mercedes Benz is one of the top of mind for commercial vehicle consumers in Indonesia.
