BAIC Officially Starts Car Production In Indonesia

Thursday, 05 Jun 2025

BAIC has already introduced two of its cars in Indonesia a few months ago, but they have only just started production here. The BJ40 Plus is assembled first because it is the best-selling model in the market so far. Handal Indonesia Motor is handling the production, with 800 units being assembled each month, although the domestic components have not yet reached 40 percent.

BJ40 Plus Begins Assembling in Indonesia

Baic has actually planned to introduce another new model in the BJ30 HEV model, but they have already finished with the production preparations. Assembled at Handal Indonesia Motor's assembly facility, the BJ40 Plus is the first car to be produced there. The X55-II will probably follow, especially after the model was refreshed a few months earlier.

Because it has only just been produced, the TKDN has not yet reached 40 percent, but they will try to reach that figure in the near future. Of course this is done so that the car can be sold at a more affordable price, from IDR 790 million to IDR 698 million. It can be said that there is a significant price reduction that almost drops by IDR 100 million.

X55-II Following?

It turns out that BAIC and Handal have a three-year contract to produce their cars in Indonesia. After the validity period has expired, they can decide whether to continue by extending the contract or building their own factory. Because Indonesia is used as the production base for their cars in Southeast Asia, and this has become a moment that cannot be missed for them.

After the BJ40 Plus, the X55-II is still unclear about whether the model can be produced locally or not. This is because its sales are still quite small compared to the BJ40 Plus, so they gave a refresh to the model a few months ago.
