Indonesian Automotive Market In Emergency: Car Sales Plunge 27%, Motorcycles Drop 24%

The automotive market in Indonesia is currently at an emergency level. Of course, car and motorcycle sales throughout last month both fell drastically!

According to Gaikindo data, quoted on Wednesday (14/5), wholesale car sales in April 2025 only reached 51,025 units. This figure fell 27.8 percent compared to the previous month which reached 70,895 units.

Not only wholesale, retail car sales (from dealers to consumers) during last month also experienced a severe decline, namely 25.5 percent! This record places April sales as the worst this year.

The same condition also affected motorcycle sales in Indonesia. According to a report by the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), only 406,691 two-wheeled vehicles were sold in the country. This figure fell 24 percent compared to the previous month which reached 541,684 units. Motorcycle sales during April 2025 were the worst this year. Because, this is the first time, the figure is below 500 thousand units.

In total, motorcycle sales in Indonesia during January-April 2025 have reached 2,089,953 units. Meanwhile, car sales in the same period were recorded at 256,368 units.
