Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives reviewed the construction of the Proving Ground at the Motor Vehicle Roadworthiness and Certification Testing Center (BPLJSKB), Bekasi Regency, West Java, during a specific working visit that took place recently. The facility is said to be the largest international vehicle testing center in Southeast Asia. The Head of the Working Visit Team of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives, H. Syaiful Huda, stated that the existence of the Proving Ground is a strategic step to strengthen the national automotive ecosystem. He considered this facility to be able to reduce dependence on vehicle testing abroad while increasing driving safety standards. "We appreciate this facility, especially with the presence of 16 test tools that allow us to test vehicles completely domestically without having to go abroad," said Huda. According to him, the existence of this facility also opens up significant potential in supporting the automotive creative industry, especially modified vehicles that currently require research space and adaptive regulatory support. "With regulatory support, we can make this center part of the national automotive creative industry," he said. Director of Road Transportation Facilities, Amirulloh, said that the construction of the Proving Ground was carried out based on the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ASEAN MRA) standards and United Nations Regulations. He explained that this facility is not only intended for conventional vehicles, but is also designed to support testing of battery-based electric vehicles. The main functions of the Proving Ground include improving the quality of safety and roadworthiness, reducing vehicle emissions and noise to protect the environment, and creating technical equality between ASEAN countries to facilitate national automotive exports. In addition, this facility also allows for the implementation of standardized physical type tests of battery-based electric vehicles. Secretary of the Directorate General of Land Transportation, Tatan Rustandi, expressed his appreciation for the support of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the development of land transportation infrastructure. He called this visit proof of synergy between the government, legislature, and automotive industry stakeholders.
