Toyota's inclination to adopt hybrid vehicle strategies in Japan is becoming increasingly pronounced. The internal combustion engine (ICE) variant of the Corolla is no longer available for sale. According to Carscoops, as of May 11, 2025, Toyota has announced that the Corolla lineup in Japan is now exclusively offered in a hybrid variant, specifically featuring a 1.8-liter hybrid powertrain. This move aligns with Toyota's actions in Europe, where the non-hybrid Corolla has also been discontinued. However, European consumers still have the option of choosing between the 1.8-liter or a more powerful 2.0-liter hybrid variant. In Indonesia, Toyota continues to market both the Corolla Altis Hybrid and Non-Hybrid, offering options for the 1.8-liter engine and hybrid. The 1.8-liter gasoline engine in the front-wheel-drive (2WD) Corolla Hybrid works in conjunction with a single electric motor, producing 94 hp (70 kW / 95 PS). Additionally, the Corolla features an all-wheel-drive (E-Four) system that incorporates a second electric motor at the rear, contributing an extra 40 hp (30 kW / 41 PS). On May 9, Toyota unveiled a slightly updated Hatchback Corolla Sport, with sedan and touring variants set to be released on May 19, 2025. The pricing starts at 2,279,200 Yen (approximately Rp259 million) for the base Corolla Hybrid X, reaching up to 3,416,600 Yen (approximately Rp350 million) for the Corolla Touring Active Sport Hybrid E-Four.
