Tuesday, 18 Feb 2025

The Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) is dedicated to playing a significant role in advancing the automotive industry in Indonesia, particularly in supporting the creations of local innovators in the field of modified vehicles.

Rifat Sungkar, the Deputy Chairman of IMI for Mobility, emphasized the necessity for official regulations to protect vehicles modified by local talents, especially those that foster the customization industry within the country.

"Vehicle customization can also cater to specific needs, such as enhancing mobility for individuals with disabilities. With these regulations in place, modified vehicles will have a clear legal foundation, making them safer for use on public roads," Rifat Sungkar stated in a press release in Jakarta on Sunday, February 16, 2025.

According to Rifat, the introduction of the Minister of Transportation Regulation (Permenhub) Number 45 of 2023 marks a significant advancement in Indonesia's automotive sector. He believes that the customization industry holds substantial potential.

"The establishment of this regulation represents a major leap forward for Indonesia's automotive landscape. With clear guidelines, we not only nurture the local industry but also elevate Indonesia's reputation on the international stage," Rifat remarked.

Additionally, this regulation signifies a significant step in fostering creativity and innovation within the automotive industry. This was noted by Riftayosi Nursatyo Sudjoko, the Head of the Motor Vehicle Design Team at the Directorate General of Land Transportation, Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia.

"With the implementation of PM 45 of 2023, customization industry players now have a clearer and more structured pathway. However, challenges remain, including the need to simplify certification procedures and reduce type testing costs to make them more accessible for small and medium-sized workshops," Riftayosi added.
