The Hybrid Mazda CX-5 Has Been Unveiled, Showcasing Its Advanced System

Friday, 31 Jan 2025

Mazda is continuously advancing its electric vehicle offerings, particularly in hybrid technology. Following the introduction of its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system, the Japanese brand is also developing hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) for the future.

According to Best Car, patent images from Japan provide insights into the HEV system of the Hiroshima-based manufacturer. The Mazda hybrid model will feature a transverse 4-cylinder engine. Additionally, an electric motor will be positioned to the right of the engine, with a control module situated above it. The transmission system will be located between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor. However, the patent application for Mazda's future hybrid system does not specify the exact engine that will be paired with this technology.

It is highly likely that the powertrain will consist of a 2.5-liter engine or a smaller variant.

Furthermore, it has been indicated that the upcoming model to utilize this advanced hybrid system will be the latest generation of the CX-5, intended to replace the current version.

In the meantime, Mazda is reportedly engaged in numerous innovations for self-charging hybrid technology for the new CX-5. The manufacturer, known for delivering luxury models, is also set to launch a new SUV equipped with the Skyactiv-Z engine, which will replace the existing Skyactiv-G and Skyactiv-X engines.
