Polytron Is Set To Expand Into The Electric Vehicle Business

A subsidiary of the Djarum Group is making significant strides! Polytron has announced its intention to enter the electric vehicle market. 

This announcement was made by Polytron's Commercial Director, Tekno Wibowo, following a media gathering titled "Opportunities and Challenges: Polytron's Strategy to Support the Strengthening of the National Electronics Industry" in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. 

"The electric vehicles will be produced at a new factory. We are not constructing it ourselves; rather, we are collaborating with a manufacturer. As for the electric vehicle details, we will provide more information after the Eid celebrations," Tekno stated. He indicated that further discussions regarding the four-wheeled vehicles would occur post-Eid. 

While he did not disclose specific details about the partners involved in this initiative, Tekno revealed that Polytron plans to collaborate with an established foreign brand specializing in SUVs. 

"Currently, our reference for electric vehicles is primarily focused on China, as most of the industry is based there. We are still working with external companies, which means we require additional time to develop the platform and other aspects. However, we are striving to meet the government's local content requirements," he explained. 

Polytron is actively expanding into the electric vehicle sector. Previously, the company, which leads the audio and home appliance market in Indonesia, ventured into the electric motorcycle business and is set to launch a new model this year.
