The Ministry of Industry focuses on developing battery-based electric motor vehicle industry by inviting leading global automotive manufacturers. During a meeting with SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co., Ltd in Beijing, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita encouraged this first Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturer in Indonesia to increase production in Indonesia and make Indonesia a production hub for exports. "We appreciate Wuling, one of the first companies to fill EV cars in Indonesia. Moreover, Wuling has made Indonesia the only EV manufacturing facility outside of China," said the Minister of Industry in his official statement on Tuesday (6/18). With the rapid development of Wuling's EV production in Indonesia, Wuling has also provided important input in the development of the EV industry in Indonesia, especially for the company. The Minister conveyed two things related to business development to Wuling. First, to be able to increase and optimize its production capacity in Indonesia. "According to us, Wuling's development in Indonesia should not stop here. The tremendous potential provided by Wuling can be developed or utilized in Indonesia," explained the Minister. Secondly, the Minister encouraged Wuling to make Indonesia a hub for exporting Wuling products worldwide, especially to meet market demand overall, excluding Wuling products from China. During the meeting, President Director of PT SGMW Motor Indonesia, Mr. Shi Guoyong, mentioned that in the seven years of the company's operation in Indonesia up to now, Wuling's investment in Indonesia has reached more than USD700 million and has reached around 130,000 buyers, as well as exporting to Thailand. Mr. Shi explained that Wuling is also the first factory that can produce electric cars and achieve a Domestic Component Level of 40% in Indonesia. He added that the support and incentives provided by the Indonesian government allow the company to invest smoothly and currently produce three types of EV products. Wuling Indonesia also announced that one of Wuling's stakeholders, SAIC Co., is a producer of MG vehicles. Currently, the company is taking the initiative to increase investment by adding the MG brand to the range of EVs produced by Wuling. Regarding the industrial activities carried out, Mr. Shi conveyed Wuling Indonesia's future plans, including exploring the markets in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and South Africa. Additionally, there are plans to produce a 7-seater MPV EV. Equally important, Wuling is striving to improve the EV supply system by collaborating with several Chinese companies to invest in Indonesia. "We prioritize the development of EVs, especially by launching high-quality products with advanced technology for both the Wuling and MG brands," he concluded.
