Feri Amsari, an academic from Andalas University, emphasized the necessity for youth to introduce innovative ideas when engaging in politics, thereby fostering a renewed spirit for the advancement of the nation and state in the future. He articulated that the involvement of young individuals is crucial for the development of the country, and thus, when they choose to participate in political parties, they must aim for reform. "Youth must embody a fresh enthusiasm and resist the temptation to conform to the detrimental political culture perpetuated by previous senior figures," stated Feri during a multi-stakeholder dialogue conducted online by the Indonesian Young Politicians Forum (FPMI). The event focused on the inclusivity of youth in political parties and the regeneration of national leadership, with discussions on policy advocacy monitored by ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday. Furthermore, he noted that politically active youth should not rely solely on financial resources or political connections for their growth. Instead, they should develop a work plan aligned with the vision and mission they aspire to achieve. According to Feri, the current political system and culture are indeed not favorable for the youth. "The reality is that it is challenging for young people to thrive without political connections as a means of engaging in politics; therefore, this situation must change," stated the constitutional law expert. He further noted that young individuals in politics must decide what kind of politicians they wish to become. They can choose to be instant politicians who leverage familial ties with certain political elites or to be educated through a rigorous political process that adheres to constitutional principles. Feri emphasized that as long as political parties do not reform their internal policies to create opportunities for the youth, young people will merely conform to the existing culture. One approach to reforming or improving political parties is to impose limits on the tenure of party chairpersons. "This would allow for the development of a new generation and ensure that the process for party cadres does not become stagnant," he remarked.
