Kaesang Responds To Rumors That Jokowi Will Become A PSI Advisory Board Member

Kaesang Pangarep remained quiet about reports circulating that former president Joko Widodo, who is also his father, would be joining the advisory board of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). According to him, appointing Jokowi to the PSI advisory board was not his responsibility. 

"Because the advisory board has a different nomenclature. You have to ask the party's founding board. That's not my responsibility," Kaesang said when met by reporters in Karanganyar Regency on Wednesday evening, July 16, 2025. 

Kaesang's presence in the city, nicknamed Bumi Intanpari, was for a meeting with PSI cadres from Central Java, Karanganyar, Solo, Sukoharjo, Klaten, Wonogiri, and Sragen. Asked whether he agreed to Jokowi becoming a member of the PSI advisory board, Kaesang said it wasn't certain. He also didn't want to speculate. 

"Well, let's just let this happen. The congress isn't over yet. Let the congress proceed. It hasn't happened yet. There's no need for any ifs and buts," he said. 

Jokowi is scheduled to attend the inaugural PSI congress in Solo, July 19-20, 2025. The 7th president is also rumored to be a speaker at the PSI's major event. Regarding Jokowi's planned attendance at the PSI congress, Kaesang did not provide a clear answer when asked whether it was a strong signal that Jokowi would join PSI. He said it was the congress committee's plan. 

"Oh, that's the committee's plan. I'm not part of the committee," he said. 

Jokowi previously stated that he would attend the PSI congress. The former mayor of Solo admitted to having received an invitation from PSI. "God willing, I will attend. I was invited, I'm coming," Jokowi said when met at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari District, Solo, Central Java, on Monday, July 14, 2025. 

However, Jokowi did not clarify whether he would be a speaker at the inaugural PSI congress. "Ask the PSI that invited you," he said. 

When asked whether PSI would be a possible destination for him to join a political party, Jokowi emphasized that it was still being considered and considered. "Everything is still a calculation, careful consideration, and requires careful consideration," he said.
