The Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Megawati Soekarnoputri, emphasized that her party would not position itself as an opposition party or a coalition party. Megawati stated that PDI-P would act as a counterweight and support government policies as long as they sided with the people. The PDI-P's stance on the Prabowo-Gibran government has now been confirmed. In her speech at the 6th PDI-P Congress in Bali, Nusa Dua, last Saturday, August 2, 2025, Megawati stated that her party would not position itself as an opposition party or a coalition party. Megawati emphasized that her party acts as a counterweight party, ensuring that national development remains aligned with the constitution and the interests of the people. While supporting every government policy, PDI-P will remain vocal in any deviations. "The PDI-P does not position itself as the opposition nor is it solely seeking to build a coalition of power. We are an ideological party that stands on the truth, sides with the people, and takes a firm stance as a balancing party to ensure the direction of national development remains within the constitutional framework and the interests of the people," Megawati said at the 6th PDI-P Congress in Nusa Dua, Bali, Saturday, August 2, 2025. PDI-P's decision was also considered by Burhanuddin Muhtadi, Professor of Political Science at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at UIN Jakarta, as a smart political move and a signal of peace toward the government. However, at the same time, it does not want to join the government. "So, on the one hand, it does not inflame confrontational sentiments against the establishment, but on the other hand, it also does not join the coalition cabinet," Burhan explained. Burhan also observed that President Prabowo Subianto genuinely wants PDI-P to join the government, as evidenced by his various active gestures. However, the PDP appears to have chosen its own path as a balancing party with a non-confrontational political direction toward the government.
