The People's Movement Organization Holds A National Leadership Meeting. Will It Become A Political Party?

The People's Movement (Gerakan Rakyat) held its first national leadership meeting (Rapimnas) in Central Jakarta on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Sahrin Hamid, Chairman of the People's Movement, stated that the forum was dedicated to determining the organization's future political direction. 

"Whether the organization will transform, form something new, or become a formal political force in the future, that's what we will discuss," Sahrin said when met at the Aryaduta Hotel in Central Jakarta today. 

He could not yet reveal specific plans, citing his reluctance to rush the process, as the organization, which comprises supporters of Anies Rasyid Baswedan in the 2024 presidential election, was only inaugurated on February 27, 2025. 

Sahrin said that today's agenda, which was also attended by Anies Baswedan, focused on gathering views from regional leadership councils (DPW) regarding the People's Movement's future plans. One of the targets was restructuring the organization's structure. 

"Currently, our focus is on structural restructuring. This is only for this year. I think the 2029 (election) is still quite far away; we still have time," said Sahrin.
