Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was warmly welcomed by Brazilian President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva while attending a series of plenary meeting activities for the 2025 BRICS Summit at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday (6/7). Based on a live broadcast on President Prabowo Subianto's YouTube account watched in Jakarta, Sunday night, Prabowo arrived at exactly 10.52 am local time, after leaving his place of lodging. The Head of State was greeted with an honor guard and a red carpet, as a tradition that shows respect for world leaders at the 2025 BRICS Summit, Brazil. President Prabowo, who wore a black suit combined with a peci of the same color, was greeted directly by President Lula, like an old friend who had met again. When the two leaders met, President Lula did not hesitate to immediately hug President Prabowo tightly, who first conveyed his respectful greetings by cupping his hands. With smiles spreading between the two, President Lula did not forget to shake President Prabowo's hand while having a brief chat. Before Prabowo was invited to enter the room where the plenary meeting was held, President Lula invited him to take a photo together in front of the BRICS background. When posing, President Lula appeared to clap his hands again when shaking hands with Prabowo, while showing a warm gesture as a sign of good relations between the two countries. Before the 2025 BRICS Summit, the last meeting between President Prabowo and President Lula took place at the G20 Summit, where Brazil hosted the meeting in November 2024. President Prabowo's presence at the BRICS Summit is a symbol of Indonesia's involvement, which is now officially part of the world economic group along with the founding countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and partner countries, such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and others. A number of members of the Red and White Cabinet who accompanied Prabowo included Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono, Deputy Minister of Finance Arrmanatha Nasir and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. The arrival of the Indonesian delegation marks the government's seriousness in taking an active role in the formation of a new, fairer and more balanced global economic order.
