Indonesian House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani said that all political party factions in parliament will gather to discuss the Constitutional Court's decision separating the implementation of national and local elections. Puan said the discussion of the eight political party factions in parliament was intended to take the DPR RI's stance as the lawmaker in following up on the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the design of the implementation of elections in the country. "Later the DPR will represent political parties through their factions, of course the stance of their own parties will be one thing, becoming the voice of us political parties to voice this, meaning the DPR," said Puan when giving a statement to the media after attending a plenary meeting at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday. Puan said the meeting of political party factions in parliament was necessary because the Constitutional Court's decision had direct implications for political parties as contestants in the election. "Of course that is (the stance) of all parties because the Constitution states that in fact elections are held once every five years or implemented once every five years, therefore this really needs to be observed by all political parties, the impact or effect of the Constitutional Court's decision," she said. She also did not deny that the Constitutional Court's decision would have an impact on changes to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (Election Law), although she reiterated that the Indonesian House of Representatives had not yet taken an official stance on the matter. "Later, of course, it will have an effect on the Election Law, but we have not discussed the Election Law, therefore the House of Representatives and the government will examine the Constitutional Court's decision," she said. Puan said that the plan for political party factions in parliament to gather to discuss the Constitutional Court's decision was carried out after the leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives together with a number of ministers and related commissions and representatives of civil society first held a meeting on Monday (30/6). She said that the meeting was attended by, among others, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, and the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) which filed a judicial review lawsuit regarding the separation of national and regional elections to the Constitutional Court. "All of us parties will gather after yesterday listening to input from the government and representatives of the community," she said. However, the female legislator said that yesterday's DPR RI leadership meeting was only limited to listening to input from the government, such as the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri). To that end, Puan emphasized that her party had not yet made a decision regarding the DPR RI's stance in responding to the Constitutional Court's decision.
