The DPR and the government held a closed meeting in response to the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling separating national and regional elections starting in 2029. The meeting, which took place at the parliament building, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (6/30/2025), was attended by the DPR leadership, DPR Commission II, DPR Commission III, and the DPR Legislation Body (Baleg). Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi and Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), Tito Karnavian were also present. "We have just been invited by the DPR leadership, Mr. Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and other leaders regarding the DPR's response to the latest MK ruling which gives us an idea that future elections must be carried out with two election models," said Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Rifqinizamy Karsayuda to reporters at the parliament complex. Rifqinizamy revealed that in the meeting, the DPR and the government discussed a number of comprehensive matters related to the MK ruling. However, he did not reveal the results of the meeting. Rifqinizamy was also reluctant to reveal the DPR's stance, whether it would immediately revise the Election Law or not. "The DPR has not given an official stance, please allow us to conduct a serious review of the Constitutional Court's decision," he said. It is known that currently Commission II of the DPR is discussing the revision of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections and is targeted to be completed in July 2026. Rifqinizamy is still waiting for direction from the leadership regarding the Constitutional Court's decision. However, he hopes that the decision can be discussed in Commission II of the DPR considering that they are currently discussing the revision of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections. "Because our daily task is to take care of election affairs, we are certainly very proud and honored if the discussion is then placed in Commission II of the DPR RI," he said.
