Amien Rais' Politics: Failed In The Presidential Election, Left PAN, Now Sued By The Ummat

Monday, 23 Jun 2025

Amien Rais has once again graced the national political scene after his name was mentioned as having committed arbitrariness as the Chairman of the Ummat Party's Shura Council. The former MPR Chairman was protested by a number of Regional Management Boards (DPD) and Regional Management Boards (DPW) of the Ummat Party because the party's articles of association and bylaws (AD/ART) were said not to reflect democratic principles. Member of the Ummat Party Court, Herman Kadir, said that the Ummat Party's Shura Council under Amien Rais' leadership ratified the new AD/ART without going through the national deliberation (Munas) or national working meeting (Rakernas).

At least 24 DPWs will write to the Ministry of Law regarding the Ummat Party's new AD/ART which was recently said to have been ratified by the Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas. If the summons submitted by the 24 Ummat Party DPWs is not responded to by the Ministry of Law, his party will sue the AD/ART ratified by Amien Rais to the State Administrative Court (PTUN).

He emphasized that the Syura Council of the Ummat Party led by Amien Rais has deviated from the values ??and principles of justice that are the basis for the formation of the party. "This party was founded to uphold justice and fight injustice. But why are we the ones committing injustice? Especially to the cadres," said Herman. "We will file a resistance. As the head of the legal team from my friends from the DPW and DPD, I will file a resistance against the arbitrary actions of the Syura Council and the DPP," he continued.

The dissatisfaction of the Ummat Party cadres towards Amien Rais seems to add to the sourness of his political career. How has Amien Rais' political career been until he is protested by his own cadres now? Here is his journey: Failed in the 2004 Presidential Election Amien Rais in the 2004 presidential election (Pilpres) advanced as a presidential candidate (capres) with the support of eight political parties. The eight political parties are the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and the Reform Star Party (PBR). Next there are the National Freedom Bull Party (PNBK), the Indonesian National Marhaenism Party, the Indonesian Democracy Upholding Party, the Indonesian Union Party, and the Social Democratic Labor Party.
