Chairman of the Legislative Body (Baleg) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Bob Hasan said that the Draft Law (RUU) on General Elections (Pemilu) and the Bill on Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) are planned to be discussed separately. According to him, so far there has been no decision that the two bills will be combined or become a Political Omnibus Law. So the two bills will be discussed one by one. "There has been no decision on the Political Omnibus Law," said Bob at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (10/6). He said that the Election Bill is included in the priority bills that will be discussed by the Indonesian House of Representatives Legislative Body in 2025. According to him, the bill will begin to be drafted after the drafting of the previous three bills is complete. The three bills that are currently being drafted are the Bill on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, the Bill on Statistics, and the Bill on Cooperatives. "Yes, later when these three have become initiative proposals, we will be one by one," he said. In addition, he ensured that the discussion of the Election Bill would not be separated from various Constitutional Court decisions that had revised or audited the previous Election Law. At the latest, according to him, the Election Bill must be completed in the next two years. "That is the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the Presidential Election, there must be two years after this Constitutional Court decision," he said. One More Year Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives Legislation Body Ahmad Doli Kurnia assessed that the ideal time limit for discussing the revision or Bill on Elections is only one year left, before the 2029 Election stages begin. He explained that based on the applicable law, the implementation of the election stages begins 20 months before voting day. And one year before that stage begins, according to him, the selection of election organizers must be carried out. "Well, if calculated based on the experience of 2024, it falls (the selection of organizers) starting in August 2026. So, that means this law must be completed in July 2026," said Doli when contacted in Jakarta, Tuesday. Thus, he considered that the one year or one and a half year period is the ideal time to immediately discuss the Election Bill. Moreover, according to him, the discussion of the Bill requires a long time to absorb aspirations from various parties.
