Indonesian House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani held a bilateral meeting with the parliamentary leaders of Algeria, Bahrain, Oman and the Czech Republic to improve cooperation. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) or the parliamentary union of countries that are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday. Puan invited friendly countries to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, by investing in education, tourism, defense and other cooperation such as sharia agriculture and sister cities. First, Puan met with the Chairman of the Algerian People's National Assembly Ibrahim Boughali. Then, the Chairman of the House of Representatives/Parliament of the Kingdom of Bahrain Ahmed bin Salman Al Musalam. Continued with the Chairman of the Shura Council of the Sultanate of Oman Khalid Hilal Nasser Al Maawali, and finally met with the Deputy Chairman of the Czech Republic's House of Representatives Jan Skopecek. Meeting with the Speaker of the Algerian National Assembly Ibrahim Boughali, Puan said that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Algeria have interests, including increasing energy investment, expanding trade and diversifying bilateral cooperation. She encouraged cooperation in the fields of economy and investment to be strengthened. "I encourage Indonesia to see the great potential in establishing a partnership with Algeria, especially in the infrastructure, mining and food industry sectors," said Puan. According to Puan, the two countries can also encourage people-to-people relations through increasing cooperation in the fields of education, empowering the younger generation and tourism. Including direct flights to support tourism in both countries. "Cooperation in the field of education by providing scholarships to Indonesian students to study in Algeria is one thing that can be improved," she said. Meanwhile, to the Speaker of the House of Representatives/Parliament of the Kingdom of Bahrain Ahmed bin Salman Al Musalam, Puan said that Indonesia considers Bahrain as one of its important trading partners in the Middle East. In fact, Indonesia-Bahrain trade in 2024 increased by 13.8 percent from the previous year. Puan said that Bahrain has become a market for a number of Indonesian export commodities, such as motor vehicles, paper products, wood products, food, footwear, car parts, and garments. Therefore, she considered that closer relations between the private sector from Indonesia and Bahrain need to be encouraged, so that the potential of each country can be better recognized. "I also invite Bahrain to invest in Indonesia, for example in the renewable energy sector. I see opportunities for economic cooperation that can be developed by involving the private sector, such as holding joint promotions to increase trade and investment," Puan explained.
