The Meeting Between Prabowo And Megawati Is Regarded As Strengthening Political Support

Political analyst Adi Prayitno believes that the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and PDI Perjuangan Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri is essential for conveying a message of unity and solidarity. This meeting serves as a foundation for addressing various issues. "In essence, if all elites are in agreement and fully support Prabowo, it will effectively advance Indonesia in the future.  

The theory explains this well. If all national forces unite, all problems should be resolved," Adi stated in his remarks on Sunday, May 11, 2025. Adi noted that this meeting could be viewed as Prabowo's effort to maintain political balance with all elites. He mentioned that there have been accusations and speculations suggesting that Prabowo appears closer to the 7th President Joko Widodo than to Megawati and the 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). "This implies that if he frequently meets with Mega, he should also meet with SBY, which would gradually dispel public accusations that Prabowo is only closer to Jokowi," he explained. Adi pointed out that the public is sensitive regarding Prabowo's meetings with former presidents. When he meets with Jokowi, there are allegations that Prabowo leans more towards Jokowi and is not as close to other former presidents. "Similarly, if Prabowo meets with Mega, there are insinuations that his relationship with Solo (Jokowi) is beginning to weaken, and so forth.  

The public tends to interpret these situations quite liberally, as in reality, Prabowo may be simultaneously close to both Jokowi and Mega, as well as SBY," he remarked. Adi believes that the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati has the potential to lead to political cooperation. He stated that both parties have been signaling towards a political alliance. "This could indicate that both will strengthen their political relationship at a more concrete level. While it has not yet reached that point, substantively, there are strong indications that both sides will enhance their political collaboration," he added. Megawati has previously reiterated her closeness to President Prabowo.
