Regarding Gibran's Impeachment Demands, This Is What Jokowi Said

The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) spoke out regarding the impeachment demands against his eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka from the position of vice president (wapres). 

The former mayor of Solo considered it a form of citizen aspiration and a form of democracy. "Yes, it is an aspiration, a proposal, yes it is permissible in a democratic country like ours," he said. 

He also considered the demands for impeachment to be commonplace even though the demands came from the TNI retired soldier forum, which is known to have many former generals as members. 

"Well, yes, it is permissible, it is just an aspiration in a democratic country. Yes, it is commonplace," he added when responding to the proposal to impeach Gibran from the position of vice president. 

When asked whether he had communicated with Gibran regarding the impeachment demands, Jokowi was reluctant to answer. He only said that the impeachment can be seen by everyone in the country's constitution, namely in the 1945 Constitution (UUD). 

"Regarding the impeachment procedure, everyone already knows the process through the MPR, must go through the Constitutional Court, back to the MPR. I think the constitutional process is like that. And the reasons for impeachment if corruption, reprehensible behavior, and others are in accordance with the constitution. It can be seen in our constitution, it is clear and obvious," said Jokowi. 

Jokowi further said that President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka were directly elected by the people in the presidential and vice presidential elections. 

"Everyone already knows that President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka have received a mandate from the people through general elections. Regarding accusations of violating the constitution, yes, all of that has been processed. There have been lawsuits several times," he concluded regarding the proposal to impeach Gibran from the position of vice president. 

As is known, recently there has been a lot of talk about the impeachment of Vice President Gibran proposed by the TNI retirees forum.
