Survey: Public Rates President Prabowo's Government Performance Positively

, 04 May 2025

The Indonesia Social Insight (IDSIGHT) survey revealed that public assessment of the performance of the Prabowo-Gibran government is still quite high with 74.6 percent positive responses to President Prabowo Subianto's leadership. "President Prabowo's performance in the 6 months of government is considered positive up to 74.6 percent," said IDSIGHT Communications Director Johan Santosa in his statement in Jakarta, Saturday. The survey revealed that only 15.4 percent responded negatively, and the rest tended to be neutral. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka also received a positive assessment with 73.5 percent positive responses, while negative assessments were only 14.2 percent and the rest were neutral.

The Indonesia Social Insight (IDSIGHT) research was conducted by analyzing responses to social media content posted on the president's and vice president's accounts on April 6-15, 2025, from the Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook Page, and Tiktok platforms. According to the 2024 Indonesia Digital Data report, these four social media platforms are the most widely used by the Indonesian people. With the different characteristics of users on each platform, the combination is expected to produce a more objective picture. On several occasions, President Prabowo did not hesitate to reveal the communication obstacles faced by the government. This was expressed when responding to various criticisms and a series of student demonstrations. The President immediately took strategic steps to improve communication, including by inviting senior journalists from leading mass media in an exclusive dialogue in Hambalang.

"What attracted the most public attention was the presence of Najwa Shihab, considering that previously she often appeared as a talk show host with sharp questions when interviewing political figures," said Johan. In his self-criticism, Prabowo gave his government's performance a score of 6 out of 10, or still far from perfect.

"On the other hand, Prabowo believes that there have been breakthroughs and achievements made, but they have not been well narrated to the public," continued Johan.

For example, the stability of food prices and rice production which recorded the highest figures in the last 7 years. Prabowo instructed Bulog to absorb farmers' rice, although it was reported that many middlemen were still buying at prices below Rp6,500 per kilogram. Finally, the President appointed Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi as the President's spokesperson. When a demonstration occurred near the Palace, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo came directly and spoke with students. In their demands, students rejected government policies ranging from budget efficiency which was feared to have an impact on education and public services, to the flagship free nutritious meal (MBG) program. There was also unrest among some young people about the difficulty of finding work and the increase in the cost of living as well as the political conditions, which culminated in the #KaburAjaDulu call on social media. In addition, the global trade war triggered by the reciprocal tariff policy of United States President Donald Trump is expected to have an impact on Indonesia's economic situation. "Economic problems are a challenge in the early half of the Prabowo-Gibran administration amidst the rolling of priority programs that also require a large budget," said Johan. Other things that have become the public spotlight are the government's offer to evacuate Gazans to Indonesia. Prabowo recently visited Turkey and other Middle Eastern countries as a diplomatic step to promote peace amid geopolitical uncertainty.
