TNI Bill Working Committee Meeting Discusses Three Main Clusters

The Working Committee of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Bill or TNI Bill discussed three main clusters in a meeting of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and government Working Committee in Jakarta, Saturday. 

The Head of the Working Committee (Panja) of the TNI Bill and also the Head of Commission I of the DPR, Utut Adianto, explained the three clusters in question, namely the position of the Ministry of Defense and the TNI, the new scope of where the TNI may remain active, and the issue of the age of soldiers. 

"Those three are the only ones, nothing else," said Utut when met on the sidelines of the meeting. 

Utut said that all clusters in the TNI Bill were discussed one by one, article by article carefully. However, he could not yet say how far the discussion had progressed.

One of the things that is still being discussed in more depth is regarding military operations other than war, which are planned to be increased to 17. 

"We are examining these one by one. What I can assure you is that if someone like me, I am responsible for this," he said. 

Regarding the target for ratification of the TNI Bill, Utut said that he did not have a specific target, but was waiting for the readiness of the government, especially the Minister of Defense, Minister of Law, Minister of Finance, and Minister of State Secretary. 

According to him, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin had hoped that the TNI Bill could be ratified during this session. 

"If the government is ready, then we are ready, we will have a working meeting. It does not mean chasing a target, what is important is that it has been discussed as well as possible," he said. 

The TNI Bill Working Committee Meeting has been taking place since Friday (14/3) and is planned to last until Sunday (16/3). 

Previously, the Plenary Meeting of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, approved the Draft Law on Amendments to Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to be included in the 2025 Priority National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
