Tuesday, 02 Jul 2024

Puan Maharani, the Chairman of the DPP PDI Perjuangan (PDIP), stated that her party is currently evaluating the possibility of nominating Kaesang Pangarep, the Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) and the son of Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), as a candidate for the 2024 Central Java Regional Election.

"Yes, (Kaesang) is also one of the considerations," Puan mentioned at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

She also expressed her positive response to the recent survey results from the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI), which ranked Kaesang in second place with the highest support in the top-of-mind simulation for potential candidates for Central Java Governor.

Puan even acknowledged that she did not question Kaesang's popularity, which surpassed the Chairman of the Central Java PDIP DPD, Bambang Wuryanto alias Bambang Pacul, in the survey. "It's okay, Kaesang is good," she remarked.

Previously, on Sunday (30/6), the latest LSI survey conducted from 21-26 June 2024 listed several names in the top-of-mind simulation for potential candidates for Governor of Central Java.

The findings indicate that Central Java Police Chief Inspector General Ahmad Luthfi is the most frequently mentioned individual at 5.2 percent, followed by Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Chairman Kaesang Pangarep at 2.5 percent, and Gerindra Party cadre and Prabowo Subianto's personal assistant Sudaryono at 2.1 percent.

Additionally, PDI-P politician Bambang Wuryanto, also known as Bambang Pacul, received 1.8 percent, Kendal Regent Dico Ganinduto received 1.7 percent, and former Deputy Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Meimoen received 1.5 percent. Meanwhile, the remaining candidates garnered less than 1 percent of the respondents' preferences. Furthermore, 78.7 percent of respondents have yet to make a selection.

LSI then conducted a semi-open simulation, offering 21 options to respondents. The results showed that Kaesang Pangarep was the top choice at 15.9 percent, followed by Inspector General of Police Ahmad Luthfi at 12.9 percent, Abdul Wachid at 7.8 percent, Raffi Ahmad at 6.8 percent, Bambang Wuryanto at 5.8 percent, Sudaryono at 4.7 percent, Hendrar Prihadi at 4.7 percent, and other candidates receiving less than 4 percent of the preferences. Additionally, 19.5 percent of respondents have yet to make a choice.
