Constitutional Court Orders Re-vote For 2024 Regional Elections In 24 Regions

The Constitutional Court (MK) has ordered a revote (PSU) or re-voting in 24 regions for the 2024 Pilkada. The order is part of the verdict of the regional head election dispute (PHPU) trial which took place on Monday, February 24, 2025. 

Head of the MK's Public Relations and Protocol Bureau, Pan Mohamad Faiz, said that there were 40 PHPU decisions read out by the MK. "Overall, for the 40 cases, the MK granted 26 cases, rejected 9 cases, and did not accept 5 cases," said Faiz in a written statement on Monday, February 24, 2025. 

The PSU orders in several regions have different reasons. In the Papua gubernatorial election, for example, the MK ordered a revote, the MK also disqualified the Papua deputy gubernatorial candidate number one Yermias Bisai. The decision to disqualify Yermias was due to Yermias' candidacy requirements which were deemed invalid. 

Meanwhile, in the Serang Regency Pilkada, the Constitutional Court also ordered a PSU. The reason was that Village Minister Yandri Susanto was proven to have carried out and attended activities that directed village heads to support candidate pair number two. Candidate for regent number two is Ratu Rachmatuzakiyah who is Yandri's wife. 

The Constitutional Court gave different deadlines for the implementation of the PSU in each region. The deadlines vary from 30 days to 180 days depending on the terrain of each region.

In addition to the 24 regions, the Constitutional Court also received 2 other PHPU lawsuits. The Constitutional Court ordered a recapitulation of the vote count for Case Number 305/PHPU.BUP-XXIII/2025 related to PHPU of Puncak Jaya Regent. The Constitutional Court also ordered improvements to the writing of the Jayapura Regency KPU Decree concerning the Determination of the Results of the 2024 Jayapura Regency Regent and Deputy Regent Election for Case Number 274/PHPU.BUP-XXIII/2025.
