The Deputy Chairman of the Golkar Party Faction in the House of Representatives, Adies Kadir, has opened the possibility of discussing an omnibus law package following the Constitutional Court's (MK) decision to eliminate the 20% presidential threshold. The Democratic Party has expressed its support for this initiative. "If it is agreed upon to proceed with an omnibus law approach, this becomes an option that can be optimized. Thus, it will not be discussed in isolation as it was previously, known as the political law package," stated Kamhar Lakumani, Deputy of the Democratic Party's Bappilu DPP, to reporters on Monday, January 13, 2025. It is important to note that the presidential nomination threshold is included in the Election Law. The proposed political omnibus law is expected to encompass laws related to the Election Law, such as the Regional Election Law and the Legislative Election Law. Kamhar emphasized that the Constitutional Court's ruling regarding the removal of the presidential threshold is binding. He affirmed that the Democratic Party respects this decision. "We respect the Constitutional Court's ruling that abolishes the 20% presidential threshold. Since the MK's decision is final and binding, it is imperative for the House of Representatives and the government, as lawmakers, to follow up on this ruling," he remarked. Furthermore, Kamhar believes that the public has high expectations regarding the Constitutional Court's decision. He hopes that the subsequent actions taken in response to this ruling will align with the public's aspirations. "The public has great hopes for increased opportunities for public participation in the drafting process moving forward, ensuring that it genuinely contributes to enhancing the quality and degree of democracy," he added.
