The Camaraderie Between Anies And Ahok At The Jakarta City Hall Has Garnered Attention, Raising Questions About Potential Political Collaboration

Friday, 03 Jan 2025

The recent gathering of former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) during the New Year celebration at the City Hall in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (December 31, 2024) has captured public attention. The camaraderie between Ahok and Anies was particularly evident as they posed for a photograph alongside Pramono, Rano, Djarot, and the Acting Governor of Jakarta, Teguh Setyabudi. Adi Prayitno, Executive Director of Parameter Politik Indonesia (PPI), suggested that this closeness may indicate a potential collaboration between the two in the future.

"If we are to be honest, I perceive a tendency for both to collaborate down the line," Adi stated to Kompas.com on Wednesday (January 1, 2025). He noted that the interaction between Anies and Ahok at the event could signify a political partnership, whether in the context of the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) or a broader political alliance involving Anies and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).

Adi pointed out that the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada could serve as a pivotal moment for political reconciliation between Anies and PDIP. "This could represent a moment of political reconciliation between Anies and PDIP, as their closeness strengthens the likelihood of future political collaboration," he added. Furthermore, Adi observed that the partnership among Ahok, Anies, and PDIP might extend beyond Jakarta, potentially influencing the 2029 elections. "This serves as an indication of possible political cooperation, both in the short and long term," Adi remarked.

According to Adi, Anies, Ahok, and PDIP currently share a similar political fate, being outside of power and having faced defeats in recent elections. "This could lay the groundwork for political collaboration, both for Jakarta and future elections," Adi noted. "It is not inconceivable that Anies, PDIP, and Ahok could work together, whether in the context of Jakarta or in a broader political framework," he reiterated.
