China – Vivo has officially expanded its S Series portfolio with the launch of two new smartphones, the Vivo S50 and the Vivo S50 Pro Mini, in the Chinese market. The devices aim to deliver flagship-level specifications, including advanced camera systems and large batteries, at a competitive starting price point of around 2,999 yuan, or approximately Rp 7 million. This strategic release positions Vivo to capture significant attention in the premium mid-range segment.
The smartphones share several high-end features but cater to slightly different user preferences. Both models boast a robust triple-camera setup on the rear, headlined by a 50-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) and complemented by a 50-megapixel 3x periscope telephoto lens and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. For selfies and video calls, a 50-megapixel front camera with autofocus is standard.
Display technology is a key highlight. The standard Vivo S50 features a spacious 6.59-inch flat AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. In contrast, the S50 Pro Mini opts for a more compact 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED display that supports an adaptive refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, helping to conserve battery life. Both screens achieve an impressive peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits.

Performance is driven by different generations of Qualcomm's powerful chipsets. The Vivo S50 is equipped with the 4nm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor paired with an Adreno 735 GPU. The Pro Mini variant takes a significant leap forward, utilizing the cutting-edge 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip with an Adreno 840 GPU, promising top-tier performance for demanding applications and games.
A massive 6,500mAh battery powers both devices, addressing a primary concern for modern users. They support 90W wired fast charging for quick power top-ups. The S50 Pro Mini extends its advantage with additional 40W wireless fast charging and wireless reverse charging capabilities, offering greater convenience.
Durability is not compromised, as both phones feature an aviation-grade aluminum frame and carry an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The S50 Pro Mini receives an added layer of protection with an IP69 certification, making it resistant to high-pressure, high-temperature water jets—a rare feature in smartphones.
The pricing structure for the Chinese market has been clearly defined. The Vivo S50 starts at 2,999 yuan (~Rp 7.0 juta) for the 12GB/256GB model, going up to 3,599 yuan (~Rp 8.5 juta) for the 16GB/512GB variant. The more advanced S50 Pro Mini begins at 3,699 yuan (~Rp 8.7 juta) for the 12GB/256GB version, with the top-tier 16GB/512GB model priced at 4,299 yuan (~Rp 10.1 juta).
As of now, Vivo has not announced any global rollout plans for the S50 series, including its availability in Indonesia. However, the compelling combination of flagship specifications, premium design, and a large battery presents a strong value proposition, making it a potentially formidable contender in international markets should the company decide to expand its reach.
