PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk. (GIAA) has reported an increase in passenger numbers. In the first nine months of 2024, GIAA flew 17.73 million passengers. The CEO of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra, stated that passenger transport until September 2024 reached 17.73 million, marking a 24% year-over-year growth. This includes 8.34 million passengers from Garuda Indonesia (the main brand), which is a 45% increase, while Citilink carried 9.39 million passengers, up by 10%. The operational performance of Garuda Indonesia reflects significant growth, with the 8.34 million passengers showing a 59% increase in international travel, totaling 1.87 million passengers. Domestic passenger numbers also rose by 41%, reaching 6.47 million. Irfan noted that there is optimism in operational performance, highlighted by a 36% increase in cargo transport, which rose from 122.42 thousand tons to 166.5 thousand tons year-over-year. Cargo transport for GIAA saw a significant rise of 36%, totaling 102.55 thousand tons in the third quarter of 2024, compared to approximately 75.32 thousand tons in the same period last year. The achievement comes from international cargo transport, which reached 43.71 thousand tons, showing a significant increase of 55%. Domestic cargo transport also rose by 25%, totaling around 58,830 tons. Garuda Indonesia (GIAA) is set to receive four new aircraft in the fourth quarter of 2024. Irfan mentioned that Garuda Indonesia is actively seeking opportunities to boost revenue, including executing various corporate actions. Garuda Indonesia will receive two narrow-body Boeing B737-800NG aircraft and may add two more narrow-body planes, which are still under negotiation, as part of its fleet expansion plan for 2023 and 2024. “With the arrival of these aircraft, we expect to enhance Garuda Indonesia's operational performance, especially during the peak holiday season of Christmas and New Year, ensuring a positive revenue trend throughout 2024,” he explained.
