Suzuki Relies On Carry To XL7 When The Automotive Market Weakens

Thursday, 19 Jun 2025

Japanese car manufacturer, PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) recorded an increase in retail sales when the domestic automotive market was sluggish. Dept. Head of 4W Sales PT SIS Randy R. Murdoko said that several Indonesian-made car models dominated around 81% of the total units sold, such as the New Carry, New XL7, All New Ertiga, and APV.

"The dominance of 81% of locally assembled vehicles in Suzuki's retail sales throughout May 2025 is not just an indicator of market success, consumer confidence is an appreciation of the hard work of thousands of local workers and the involvement of hundreds of supporting companies that are part of the supply chain," Randy said as quoted on Monday (6/16/2025).

Referring to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), Suzuki's retail sales, aka from dealers to consumers, were recorded to have increased by 10.9% month-to-month (mtm) to 4,523 units in May 2025, compared to 4,077 units in April. However, wholesale sales, or from factories to dealers, fell slightly by 5.4% to 3,921 units in May, compared to 4,145 units in April 2025. Overall, Suzuki recorded wholesale sales of 22,240 units in the first 5 months of 2025, while its retail sales were 23,199 units. Randy said that not only in the domestic market, the four Suzuki production models also showed a strategic contribution on the global stage.

Domestic production units have been shipped to more than 70 countries, reaching Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. On the other hand, Suzuki has also strengthened its after-sales service reach through 302 dealer networks and 217 authorized workshops spread throughout Indonesia. "Suzuki's retail sales are greatly influenced by business people. They need operational vehicles that are accommodating for various purposes, fuel efficient and tough. This is proven by the contribution of our New Carry which reaches 55% of the total models in our line-up," concluded Randy. Throughout the period of January-May 2025, total wholesale car sales fell 5.5% yoy to 316,981 units, compared to the same period in the previous year of 335,405 units. Meanwhile, retail car sales also fell 9.2% to 328,852 units, compared to the first 5 months of 2024 of 362,163 units.
