Different Views Of Several Political Parties On Jokowi Preferring PSI

The political move by the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), who is leaning towards joining PSI has drawn comments. A number of political party elites have spoken out in response to Jokowi's chances of becoming the new PSI general chairman. 

Jokowi has been linked to being a strong candidate for the new PSI general chairman. In addition to PSI, Jokowi's name has also been linked to the PPP general chairman election. When the issue emerged, Jokowi emphasized that he preferred PSI. 

Jokowi's statement drew comments from a number of politicians. They considered Jokowi's choice to be the right one and compared Jokowi's attitude to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) when he retired from the presidency. 

PPP Respects Jokowi, Prefers PSI 

Jokowi chose the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) when asked about the possibility of entering the general chairman candidate election of the United Development Party (PPP). PPP DPP Chairman Syaifullah Tamliha said that his party had never formally proposed to Jokowi to become general chairman. 

"It is Mr. Jokowi's political right to make PSI his political vehicle. PPP institutionally has never proposed Mr. Jokowi to become PPP's general chairman candidate," Tamliha told reporters on Sunday (8/6/2026). 

Tamliha said PPP has a stock of candidates for its party's general chairman. He said PPP still has enough time to recruit candidates. 

"We have enough stock and time to mature the PPP's general chairman candidate, which God willing will be held at the upcoming September Congress," he said.
