The Request For Additional Funding For Political Parties From The State Budget Is Under Review

Wednesday, 28 May 2025

Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has responded to the proposal for additional funding for political parties sourced from the state budget (APBN). Puan stated that this proposal is linked to the spirit of combating corruption.

"The proposed funding for political parties essentially aims to prevent corruption," Puan remarked at the Indonesian House of Representatives building in Jakarta on Sunday, May 25, 2025.

Puan further noted that this proposal requires further examination, particularly regarding the sufficiency of the state budget and whether the proposal can be implemented swiftly.

"We need to consider whether the state budget will be sufficient moving forward, and whether this can indeed be executed promptly; we will first review the study on this matter," she stated.

Previously, it was reported that the leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had proposed to the government that political parties be allocated substantial funding. This funding would be provided through the state budget.

"The KPK has made several recommendations to the government to allocate significant funds for political parties, recommending funding for political parties to be sourced from the state budget," said KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto during a thematic webinar on anti-corruption education titled 'State Capture Corruption: Learning from the e-KTP Scandal,' held online via the KPK YouTube channel on Thursday, May 15.

Head of the Presidential Communication Officer (PCO), Hasan Nasbi, mentioned that this idea could be discussed. He noted that President Prabowo Subianto is seriously committed to eradicating corruption.

"Clearly, the President has a very serious agenda to combat corruption. This is also part of Asta Cita, the fight against corruption. Therefore, ideas aimed at eradicating corruption can be discussed," Hasan told reporters at his office in Central Jakarta on Monday, May 19.
