Criticism Of PDI-P As Government Partner Considered Stronger If Solution-oriented

Thursday, 22 May 2025

The critical attitude instilled by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle or PDI-P in its regional heads will be stronger and more impactful if accompanied by concrete solutions. This is important considering that PDI-P has decided to synchronize with government programs, but still maintain its critical reasoning.

This view emerged in response to the results of PDI-P's briefing to all regional heads/deputy heads from the party with the white-nosed bull symbol, recently. The party asked each of its cadres who became regional heads to remain critical in reviewing central government programs while still synchronizing programs in the regions.

Political researcher from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Wasisto Raharjo Jati, is of the view that PDI-P's critical attitude is part of a normal political dynamic. However, the value of this criticism will increase if accompanied by constructive solutions.

"Being critical is allowed. However, it would be better to also provide solutions," said Wasisto when contacted from Jakarta, Monday (19/5/2025).

On the other hand, this PDI-P step indirectly provides a code for the party's attitude towards the government. According to Wasisto, the PDI-P's attitude of not just agreeing, but also not just rejecting government programs is an effort by the party to position itself as a political partner of the government, both at the national and local levels.

The PDI-P's critical attitude, he continued, internally shows the efforts of cadres to continue to uphold the principle of regional autonomy. While externally, this step displays the PDI-P's political strength which is synergistic and at the same time dares to be critical in the constellation of the government coalition.

Wasisto also did not deny the potential for criticism that leads to differences in programs in the regions and the center, especially in areas led by PDI-P cadres. This difference needs to be seen as an opportunity for the emergence of policies in the regions that are innovative or supportive in the implementation of central programs, which is the embodiment of a critical attitude accompanied by solutions.

"Thus, the weight and impact of the PDI-P's critical attitude in the eyes of the public and the government will be increasingly significant if accompanied by the ability to offer a way out of the issues being criticized," he said.

The briefing activity for all regional heads/deputy heads from PDI-P at the PDI-P DPP Party School, Jakarta, was held for three days from Friday-Sunday (16-18/5/2025). At least 116 PDI-P cadres who became regional heads attended the briefing given by PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri and other PDI-P elite ranks.
