The government, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, has canceled the previously scheduled phased inauguration of regional heads, which was set to begin on February 6, 2025. In response, the Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with the election organizers, namely the General Election Commission (KPU), the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), and the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP), will hold a joint working meeting with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Monday, February 3, 2025. "There will be a working meeting with Commission II on Monday, February 3, 2025," stated Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian during a visit to the Ministry's office on Friday, January 31, 2025. According to Tito, the meeting will address the establishment of a new date for the phased inauguration of regional heads. Additionally, several proposed dates that have been submitted to President Prabowo Subianto will also be discussed. Separately, the Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, expressed that a reevaluation of the inauguration schedule is necessary during the working meeting. "The decision regarding the February 6, 2025 date for the simultaneous inauguration of governors, regents, and mayors not involved in legal disputes at the Constitutional Court has already been determined by Commission II," said Rifqinizamy. "Therefore, ethically and to maintain a good partnership, we will reconsider if there are proposals for changes," he added. Reason for the postponement of the inauguration The postponement of the regional heads' inauguration follows the Constitutional Court's decision to expedite the reading of the dismissal ruling in the 2024 election dispute. According to Constitutional Court Regulation Number 1 of 2025, the schedule for the dismissal ruling reading is set for February 4-5, 2025, which is earlier than the original schedule of February 15, 2025.
