RI And Korea Collaborate To Accelerate Industry 4.0 In The Manufacturing Sector

Tuesday, 28 Jan 2025

The Ministry of Industry is actively promoting the implementation of Industry 4.0 in the manufacturing sector to enhance productivity and global competitiveness. This digital transformation effort requires collaboration with various stakeholders at both national and international levels.

"Collaboration between the government, private sector, and educational institutions is essential to ensure that Indonesia can compete globally in this digital era," said Andi Rizaldi, Head of the Industrial Services Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry, in an official statement in Jakarta on Sunday (January 26).

The Head of BSKJI emphasized that the government increasingly recognizes the importance of Industry 4.0, especially for the manufacturing sector. Therefore, the government has launched several initiatives, including "Making Indonesia 4.0," aimed at accelerating the adoption of digital technology in manufacturing.

"However, significant challenges remain, such as infrastructure readiness, the development of skilled human resources, and the existing digital divide in some regions," Andi stated. To address these challenges, the Ministry of Industry has established a bilateral cooperation with the South Korean government, represented by the International Economic Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF), focusing on the digitalization of Indonesia's manufacturing industry.

This bilateral cooperation was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Arrangement (MoA) on January 22, 2025. The MoA was signed by Priyadi Arie Nugroho, Head of the Center for Optimization of Industrial Technology Utilization and Industrial Services Policy (POPTIKJI), representing the Ministry of Industry, and Choi Dong Il, Director of the Trade Policy Coordination Division, representing MOEF.

The Head of POPTIKJI expressed confidence in the implementation of the Smart Factory concept, which will enhance production efficiency and productivity, reduce operational costs, and improve the competitiveness of Indonesian manufactured products in the global market.

We hope to see more good projects like this in the future, and that economic cooperation projects related to trade will continue to create new opportunities for revitalizing trade relations between Korea and Indonesia, she stated.

Meanwhile, Dewi Muliana, Director of International Industrial Access at the Directorate General of Resilience, Regional, and International Industrial Access, mentioned that this bilateral cooperation is an active participation of the Directorate in enhancing technical cooperation in the industry with several strategic partners. The goals of this cooperation include improving industrial competitiveness, exports, domestic investment, and participation in the global supply chain.

“The collaboration with South Korea, initiated through the proposal for The Digitalization of The Manufacturing Industry in Indonesia by POPTIKJI, is expected to accelerate digital transformation in Indonesia's manufacturing sector by developing guidelines for smart factories, thereby increasing productivity and efficiency in the manufacturing industry,” Dewi explained.
