Thursday, 05 Dec 2024

PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (Chandra Asri Group) is hosting the Chandra Asri Limitless Innovation and Business Strategy (CALIBER) Challenge 2024 with the theme “Turning Trash into Treasure: Sustainable Solutions for Plastic Waste.” This is the first time Chandra Asri Group is organizing this program to provide students with a platform to share their innovative and creative ideas while gaining hands-on experience in developing business cases in the workplace.

This year, the CALIBER 2024 competition encourages students to come up with sustainable plastic waste management ideas based on a circular economy in Indonesia.

The CALIBER 2024 competition will run for three months, starting with registration in September 2024, followed by proposal submissions, selection, and the announcement of 10 finalist teams. The award ceremony will take place on November 28-29 in Jakarta. The program has attracted 49 teams from various universities across Indonesia in the initial selection phase.

The case study focuses on "Strategies for the Commercialization of CIRCLO® and Product Development." CIRCLO® is standardized shredded plastic waste used for sustainable infrastructure. Chandra Asri Group provides CIRCLO® as a raw material for asphalt mixtures to facilitate the adoption of plastic asphalt in different regions.

Chrysanthi Tarigan, Head of Corporate Communications at Chandra Asri Group, stated that CALIBER 2024 aims to help students generate innovative ideas and gain real-world experience in solving workplace challenges.

According to Chrysanthi, CALIBER 2024 encourages students to present solutions that can be implemented in the industry. This year, the company is focusing on improving environmental quality and developing sustainable infrastructure in Indonesia, while also allowing participants to make a tangible contribution to plastic waste management.

Through CALIBER 2024, we aim to inspire young people to not only think about solutions for plastic waste but also to recognize opportunities that can lead to significant environmental changes in Indonesia," said Chrysanthi.

In this competition, the Smansasiers team from the University of Indonesia won first place with their ACE Strategy (Advance Supply Chain, Collaborate, Elevate Market Impact). This strategy is designed to use plastic waste as a raw material for sustainable innovation. Its main focus includes optimizing the supply chain for HDPE plastic waste, collaborating with various stakeholders, and raising public awareness through participation in environmental-themed pop-up events and B2B approaches. The program also includes plans for partnerships to expand social impact.

The second place was taken by the Glance team from the University of Indonesia with their innovation Hydropave, a product made from 10% CIRCLO® that is water permeable. This product features a hollow design that allows water to seep into the ground, supporting more eco-friendly solutions.

Meanwhile, the third place was secured by the UHMWPE team from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) with a proposed strategy that includes product certification, partnerships, and a revenue-sharing scheme to promote wider adoption of CIRCLO®.

As a company committed to sustainability, Chandra Asri Group supports the innovative ideas of young people involved in the CALIBER 2024 program. The company hopes that the proposed solutions will not only address plastic waste issues but also contribute to the development of greener and more sustainable infrastructure.
