Prabowo Will Not Run For President In 2029 If Achievement Fails

President Prabowo Subianto stated that he would not run as a presidential candidate in the 2029 Election if he failed to lead the government for the next five years. 

The statement was revealed after Prabowo asked Tidar cadres, Gerindra's wing organization, not to throw out their support for 'two terms' too early. He then promised not to run in the 2029 Presidential Election if he failed to achieve the programs that had been planned. 

"Please keep that intention in your heart. But I have said, later the one who will determine whether Prabowo will run for two terms or not, other than the Almighty Prabowo himself," said Prabowo at the PP Tidar IV Congress at the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, Saturday (17/5). 

"If I judge, I judge, that I have not achieved what I have planned, I do not want to run again as president of the Republic of Indonesia," he continued. 

Prabowo then admitted that the decision in the upcoming Presidential Election was very much determined by his performance in this period. He said that his leadership as President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 period would be the parameter for his future candidacy. 

Prabowo also asked the young Tidar cadres not to expect him to run if his government is unsuccessful. As a political fighter, he admitted that he only wanted to serve the community. 

"If I consider myself unsuccessful, I beg you not to expect me to run again," he said. 

Prabowo was finally elected president after running with Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the 2024 presidential election. He then took office after being inaugurated on October 20, 2024. 

Prabowo has failed three times in the presidential election, since 2009, 2014, and 2019. In the 2009 presidential election, Prabowo ran as a vice presidential candidate accompanying PDIP presidential candidate Megawati Soekarnoputri. 

Then in 2014, Prabowo became a presidential candidate with his deputy Hatta Rajasa. Furthermore, Prabowo ran again as a presidential candidate paired with Sandiaga Uno in 2019.
