Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri highlighted the need for education on local food diversity and healthier food choices. The 25th Salon International de L'alimentation (SIAL) Interfood is expected to be an opportunity for learning and finding ways to support local and environmentally friendly food initiatives. This was stated by Deputy Minister Roro during the opening of the SIAL Interfood exhibition today, Wednesday (November 13) at the Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran. Deputy Minister Roro was accompanied by the Director General of National Export Development Mardyana Listyowati, Secretary of the Directorate General of National Export Development Muhammad Suaib Sulaiman, and Director of Primary Product Export Development Miftah Farid. "Through the 25th SIAL Interfood in Jakarta, stakeholders and participants are expected to learn about the importance of local food diversity and healthier food options. Therefore, this exhibition should be optimally utilized for mutual learning and finding ways to support environmentally friendly local food initiatives," said Deputy Minister Roro. She explained that there are currently various urgent issues facing the food industry, such as food safety, sustainability, and healthy eating patterns. These issues need to be addressed promptly, especially as public awareness grows regarding the importance of choosing delicious and environmentally friendly food. Additionally, Deputy Minister Roro emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector to support the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) while promoting the export of products, including food and beverages. For her, collaboration can enhance competitiveness, facilitate the internationalization of MSMEs, and improve production capacity and product quality. UMKM can play a crucial role in creating jobs and boosting national exports. Therefore, collaboration between the government and the private sector is essential to enhance competitiveness, support the internationalization of UMKM, and improve the production capacity and quality of Indonesian food products. One initiative that supports this goal is the 25th SIAL Interfood event in Jakarta, as explained by Deputy Minister of Trade Roro. The SIAL Interfood exhibition is the largest food exhibition in the world. This year, Jakarta has been chosen to host the 25th SIAL Interfood, which will take place over four days from November 13 to 16, 2024. SIAL is a leading partner globally for the development and export of food businesses. The collaboration between SIAL Group and Krista Exhibitions aims to help food companies enter the promising ASEAN market. "The 25th SIAL Interfood exhibition in Jakarta is expected to greatly benefit Indonesian food trade, enhance networking, and expand export markets, supporting national economic growth," said Deputy Minister Roro. Roro stated that the Ministry of Trade is committed to continuing initiatives for UMKM to access international markets. This aims to facilitate the expansion of export markets through three main programs. "First, this initiative focuses on protecting the domestic market, which includes market utilization, trade dispute resolution, and ongoing trade supervision. Second, it aims to expand export markets by enhancing international trade diplomacy. Lastly, there are efforts to encourage adaptability and innovation among UMKM, known as UMKM Berani Inovasi Siap Adaptasi (BISA) Ekspor," added Roro.
