As the pioneer of bottled drinking water (AMDK) in Indonesia, AQUA always innovates to bring quality products committed to quality and safety assurance, while prioritizing environmental impact. One of the innovations created to achieve this goal is the introduction of the Reusable Gallon product. In addition to the polycarbonate (PC) Reusable Gallon, AQUA has also distributed a Reusable Gallon made from environmentally friendly polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Both of these AQUA Reusable Gallons are equally safe, high quality, and meet government regulations such as SNI and BPOM. The PET Reusable Gallon packaging has been introduced since 2019 with a focus on distribution in Bali and North Sulawesi. In 2024, the PET Reusable Gallon will gradually be distributed more widely to Jakarta and West Java. Both AQUA Reusable Gallon products, whether PET or PC, are of high quality, meet high food safety standards, and maintain the purity of AQUA within them. The use of Reusable Gallon packaging is in line with AQUA's commitment to #PlasticWise by using 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging. AQUA also aims to increase the recycling element in bottle packaging to 50%. As part of a visit to AQUA's production facility in Mambal, Bali, AQUA also had the opportunity to receive visits from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), and the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) to the PET Recycling Business Unit (RBU) facility in Denpasar, Bali, to showcase AQUA's capabilities in recycling its packaging post-consumption and delivering quality products while preserving the environment. Wisti Noviani, Head of the Circular Economy Division of KLHK, stated, "We appreciate AQUA's initiative in using recycled packaging for its products, including the use of PET in its new Reusable Gallon." One of the efforts to reduce plastic packaging waste from bottled water products and create a positive impact on the environment. We hope this initiative can continue, and inspire other food and beverage producers to actively participate in reducing their packaging waste, especially single-use packaging waste. Jeffri Ricardo, Packaging Circularity Senior Manager of Danone Indonesia, emphasizes AQUA's support to contribute to achieving the Indonesian government's target in addressing waste issues. "We are honored to receive representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry this time. We believe that the implementation of a circular economy is one of the solutions to address waste issues in Indonesia. Therefore, AQUA continues to promote the implementation of a circular economy through the #BijakBerplastik movement with three main focuses, namely developing waste collection infrastructure, educating consumers and the public, and innovating packaging in products. AQUA's Reusable PET Gallon, which has also been introduced in Jakarta and West Java, is a manifestation of AQUA's commitment to implementing a circular economy. The current Reusable PET and PC Gallons are official AQUA products that are safe, can protect the quality of AQUA's mineral content, and environmentally friendly," he said. Plastic waste management is one of the main issues in Indonesia. The National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) records that in 2022, Indonesia produced 21.19 million tons of waste. Of the total waste, 34.45% is unmanaged, posing a potential threat to water sources, oceans, and the environment. The government targets a 70% reduction in plastic waste into the sea by 2025 and strives to engage the public and private sectors in waste management.
