Thursday, 17 Jul 2025

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his gratitude to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for attending France's national celebration, Bastille Day. "Thank you for your presence on our national celebration, friend Prabowo. I am very proud to see Indonesian soldiers marching alongside our troops," Macron wrote in Indonesian on his Instagram account, @emmanuelmacron, Tuesday (July 15, 2025).

Macron wrote several lines in both Indonesian and French. The first paragraph is in Indonesian, followed by the next paragraph in French. "From Jakarta to Paris, our strategic partnership is ever more vibrant and strong!" he wrote in Indonesian.

The video he embedded shows footage of the Indonesian contingent's performance at the Bastille Day celebrations on Monday (July 14, 2025). There is also video footage of Prabowo and Macron embracing. Macron said he still remembers the moment he visited the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java, on May 28. "I still have strong memories of my visit last May, especially at the Akmil Military Academy in Magelang, in the heart of Java, and our meeting with Indonesian National Armed Forces soldiers who were learning French," Macron wrote.

Prabowo attended as the guest of honor at yesterday's Bastille Day celebrations. Via his Instagram account, @prabowo, the 8th President of Indonesia also thanked Macron in a French post, which translates as, "Thank you, Mr. President, for the honor of your invitation and for the testimony of the friendship that unites our two countries." "Merci, Monsieur le Président, pour l’honneur de votre invitation et pour le témoignage d’amitié qui unit nos deux pays," Prabowo wrote.

Appearing at the event in Paris yesterday was the Indonesian contingent, consisting of members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), who are members of the Patriot Task Force II Contingent. The Indonesian contingent of 451 personnel was honored to be the opening line in the Bastille Day parade, becoming the leading troop and stepping right in front of the podium of honor of French President Emmanuel Macron.
