The governments of Indonesia and Tajikistan agreed to strengthen bilateral relations, as well as encourage cooperation between the two countries in the economic sector and people-to-people contact on Friday, May 30. This was emphasized in a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir and the First Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan, H.E. Hokim Kholiqzoda at the Tajikistan Presidential Administration Complex in Dushanbe, May 29. The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Industry and New Technologies, H.E. Sherali Kabir. The governments of Indonesia and Tajikistan agreed that the momentum of 31 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Tajikistan needs to be utilized to strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially concrete cooperation in various fields. Both parties also agreed to encourage mutual visits by high-ranking officials and explore the establishment of a bilateral consultation mechanism. The meeting also specifically discussed the potential for increasing cooperation in the trade, investment, industry, and energy sectors. On that occasion, Deputy PM Kholiqzoda conveyed Tajikistan's desire to invest in Indonesia, especially in the downstream industrial sector. Tajikistan itself is a country rich in natural resources, including bauxite and cotton as the main export commodities. In addition, opportunities for cooperation in the fields of hydro-energy and palm oil processing were also discussed. In order to increase interaction between business circles, Deputy Minister Tata extended an invitation to Tajikistan to participate in the Halal Indo Expo on 25-28 September 2025 and the Trade Expo Indonesia on 15-19 October 2025. The First Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan welcomed the invitation and will encourage high-level participation. Tajikistan also hopes that the Indonesian Government can increase the number of scholarships for Tajik students to be able to study in Indonesia. On 30 May 2025, Deputy Minister Tata also held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, H.E. Sirojiddin Muhriddin, and the Head of the State Investment and Asset Management Agency, H.E. Sulton Rahimzoda. The meeting discussed in detail various concrete cooperation that will be explored by the two countries, including in the fields of politics, socio-culture, and strengthening trade and investment in both countries. Deputy Foreign Minister Tata is in Dushanbe, Tajikistan to lead the Indonesian Delegation at the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation 2025 which will be held on 29-31 May 2025.
