Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the retreat session of the 46th ASEAN Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC), Malaysia, on Monday (26/5/2025). The session was a closed discussion between ASEAN leaders to discuss two main issues, namely the implementation of the five-point consensus regarding Myanmar, as well as an exchange of views on developing regional and international issues. Based on the Presidential Secretariat's statement, in the discussion on the topic of the five-point consensus, the country's leaders also discussed the next steps for the ASEAN leaders' decision regarding Myanmar. On this issue, Prabowo has had many discussions with leaders of other friendly countries and encouraged an inclusive peace process. Together with Singaporean Prime Minister (PM) Lawrence Wong, Indonesia and Singapore agreed to ensure the implementation of the five-point consensus. This was conveyed in a bilateral meeting between Prabowo and the Singaporean PM at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta in November 2024. "Regarding Myanmar, we agreed to ensure the implementation of the five-point consensus, especially inclusive national dialogue and the delivery of humanitarian aid," said Prabowo at that time. Meanwhile, in his meeting with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtran Shinawatra on Monday (19/5/2025) in Bangkok, Prabowo said that Indonesia and Thailand showed the same concern for the ongoing conflict. Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for Thailand's role in finding a peaceful solution. "We also emphasized the importance of an inclusive national dialogue, which can achieve peace and stability in Myanmar," Prabowo said. The second topic in the retreat session included an exchange of views on strategic issues in the region and the world. In several meetings with friendly countries, Indonesia has encouraged strengthening solidarity and peace and shared prosperity in the Southeast Asia region. The retreat session itself is a forum designed to allow ASEAN leaders to discuss more deeply and strategically. The results of this session will be an important basis for formulating a joint policy direction.
