Monday, 03 Jun 2024

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi stated that in order to create professional port experts, it is necessary to have training material standards and curriculum that consider and adapt to the needs and demands of the field. Therefore, competent instructors or lecturers are needed to deliver this content in the training, resulting in the creation of qualified port experts.

The Minister conveyed this during the Launching Ceremony of the Technical Assistance Training Program for the Improvement of Civil Servant Competence in the Directorate General of Sea Transportation and the Internship of Civil Servants in the Human Resources Development Agency of Transportation in Jakarta on Friday (31/5).

"The training material standards and curriculum for port expert candidates need to consider the needs and complexity of port management. This can be done by adjusting the teaching material to the job demands in the port sector, thus requiring lecturers who can produce port experts with such competencies," said the Minister.

Therefore, the Minister encourages lecturers who are civil servants in the Ministry of Transportation to broaden their knowledge, develop their skills, and stay updated with renewable technologies. "The civil servant internship program under the Transportation Human Resources Development Agency is a necessity in order to enhance the knowledge and skills of lecturers. It should not only be done in the maritime sector, but also in the land, air, and railway sectors," the Minister stated.

The Minister hopes that the selected internship participants can contribute to the development of personnel capacity. In addition, with the knowledge, networking, and work experience gained during the internship, civil servants are expected to provide innovative solutions for the advancement of the transportation sector.

I hope that all of you can become future leaders of change in the Ministry of Transportation who are able to think smart, have a global orientation, but still hold firmly to national values," said the Minister of Transportation.

Director General of Sea Transportation, Antoni Arif Priadi, stated that Indonesia has 636 ports consisting of 28 Main Ports, 164 Collector Ports, 166 Regional Collectors, and 278 Local Collector Ports. All ports function to serve the smoothness and order of maritime transportation throughout Indonesia.

The management of all these ports requires competence and quality of human resources in the field of port management that are professional and able to meet the demands of the global era. "We hope that through this collaboration program, it will enhance the competence of Transportation HR who master the knowledge and skills needed in various roles in ports in Indonesia. Therefore, in the future, port management in Indonesia will be more effective, sustainable, and contribute to national maritime economic growth," explained Director General Antoni.
