Monday, 01 Jul 2024

The public service innovation SIDIK (SistemInformasi Data IndeksKerentanan) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) has achieved recognition at the prestigious United Nations Public Service Awards (UNPSA) 2024.

After undergoing the selection process, review, and clarification by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), SIDIK was chosen as the winner of the UNPSA 2024 special category for tackling climate change, making it the only initiative from Indonesia to receive an award at UNPSA-2024.

The award presentation took place at the culmination of the United Nations Public Service Forum (UNPSF) event in Incheon, Korea, on June 24-26, 2024. During the event, the Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK) was represented by the Inspector General of the Ministry of LHK, LaksmiWijayanti, to receive the award.

SIDIK is a rapid assessment tool for climate vulnerability and risk, developed since 2012. SIDIK aims to provide information on climate change vulnerability to support development policies by the central and regional governments in planning adaptation efforts, as well as reducing the risks and impacts of climate change, including indicative data and information on climate change vulnerability at the village level throughout Indonesia.

SIDIK, accessible through www.sidik.menlhk.go.id, was developed based on the vulnerability and climate risk assessment concept outlined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). SIDIK measures the impact of climate change expressed in exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity indices.

This tool utilizes socio-economic, demographic, environmental, infrastructure, and climate projection data to generate information on climate vulnerability and risk levels, with analysis units down to the village level.

Flexibility in Indicator Adjustment.

The strength of SIDIK lies in its flexibility in adjusting indicators and using local data and weighting settings, so it can help central and local governments in mainstreaming climate change adaptation into development planning.

Just so you know, June 23 is designated by the UN as Public Service Day, intended to celebrate the value and importance of public service to the community. UNPSA itself is held to provide the highest international recognition for excellence in public service, to appreciate creative achievements that lead to effective and responsive public administration in countries around the world. In addition, UNPSA aims to promote and appreciate innovations that support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
