Indonesia Has Officially Become The Eighth Largest Economy In The World

Indonesia has achieved an impressive position as the eighth largest economy in the world, based on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) adjusted for purchasing power parity (PPP) in 2024. This economic ranking data has been sourced from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). 

According to the findings, China ranks first with a GDP of USD 37.07 trillion, equivalent to IDR 600 quadrillion (1 USD = IDR 16,188.2). The United States follows in second place with a GDP of USD 29.17 trillion, or IDR 472.2 quadrillion, marking a setback for the U.S. in comparison to China. 

India occupies the third position with a GDP of USD 16.02 trillion, translating to IDR 259.3 quadrillion. Russia ranks fourth with a GDP of USD 6.91 trillion, or IDR 111.8 quadrillion. 

Japan is in fifth place with a GDP of USD 6.57 trillion, equivalent to IDR 106.3 quadrillion, while Germany follows in sixth place with a GDP of USD 6.02 trillion, or IDR 97.4 quadrillion. 

Brazil holds the seventh position with a GDP of USD 4.7 trillion, which is equivalent to IDR 76 quadrillion. Indonesia, in eighth place, has a GDP of USD 4.66 trillion, or IDR 75.4 quadrillion, placing it on par with Brazil. 

Indonesia surpasses France and the United Kingdom. 

France ranks ninth with a GDP of USD 4.36 trillion, equivalent to IDR 70.5 quadrillion, while the United Kingdom occupies the tenth position with a GDP of USD 4.28 trillion, or IDR 69.2 quadrillion. 

This ranking signifies Indonesia's advancement over developed nations such as France and the United Kingdom, reflecting significant growth amidst various global challenges. 

Global Economic Growth Projections 

According to the IMF's "World Economic Outlook Update January 2025," global growth is projected to be 3.3 percent in 2025 and 2026, which is below the historical average of 3.7 percent from 2000 to 2019.
