PepsiCo, a global leader in food and beverage, is launching the Greenhouse Accelerator Program (GHAC) for the third year in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. This program reflects a strong commitment to sustainability, aiming to support innovators in the food and beverage sector as they contribute to Indonesia's journey towards a more sustainable future. GHAC is a mentorship-based program focused on pilot projects in APAC, designed to promote sustainable innovation and assist startups by providing business consulting from experts and collaboration opportunities with PepsiCo. As a leading sustainability accelerator in APAC, GHAC reinforces PepsiCo's commitment to finding solutions that support growth in the circular economy, sustainable agriculture, and climate action. In 2023 and 2024, the program has successfully created 15 pilot projects across seven regions, focusing on early-stage startups that aim to develop innovations for reducing environmental impact, advancing renewable energy, and promoting sustainable farming practices. GHAC also encourages the development of new innovative ideas and conducts trials on various solutions that could lead to significant future changes. Statistics reveal that 39% of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the APAC region have not aligned their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts with their business growth goals. The Greenhouse Accelerator program from PepsiCo aims to empower startups by providing the resources and guidance needed to create meaningful change and expand innovation across our food systems. In the past two years, PepsiCo, along with its partners, has successfully launched 15 pilot projects in the Asia-Pacific region through this program. They have also collaborated with 95 institutions and venture capital firms to strengthen their commitment to building a robust sustainability ecosystem, said Ashley Brown, VP Supply Chain ANZ & Chief Sustainability Officer PepsiCo APAC. The GHAC program will provide $20,000 in funding to each of the 10 finalists, with an additional $100,000 for the winning startup. Furthermore, finalists will receive comprehensive mentorship from PepsiCo executives and business accelerator experts to help them tackle challenges and accelerate growth. This year, the GHAC program is partnering with GC Ventures, the venture capital division of PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC), and long-term partner Circulate Capital to offer guidance and support to program participants. Since its launch, the program has led to various pilot projects that have resulted in further collaborations with PepsiCo and its partners. One notable example is Alterno, the winner of the 2024 GHAC program, which has developed the first low-cost thermal energy storage solution in Asia for renewable energy. Alterno's sand battery technology could serve as an alternative in the snack food drying process, potentially helping PepsiCo reduce energy costs and emissions while making a positive environmental impact. "As sustainability becomes a priority for investors, consumers, and employees, accelerator programs like GHAC play a crucial role in helping entrepreneurs develop sustainable initiatives while maintaining their competitiveness."
