Fidela Gracia's timely graduation from the Advanced LL.M program in Law and Digital Technology at Leiden University in the Netherlands is a significant and proud achievement for her.

The beautiful woman, who graduated from the Faculty of Law at President University in 2017, successfully earned her LL.M degree from this prestigious institution.

Although she was born into a family where her parents worked in the automotive industry, this did not deter Dela from pursuing a career in law.

"This journey has been challenging yet eye-opening for me. I come from Pontianak, and even though my parents are in the private automotive business, I am the only one in my family pursuing a career in law. This has encouraged me to think critically and engage with complex real-world issues. It has also broadened my understanding of how the legal framework can adapt to rapid technological advancements," she shared in Jakarta on January 8, 2024.

Dela, as she is commonly known, aspires to be an expert and practitioner in law and technology. She hopes to contribute to improving Indonesia's legal system by applying her knowledge and blending legal principles with technological advancements.

"I aim to enhance Indonesia's legal system by using my knowledge and experience to tackle challenges arising from the intersection of law and technology," she explained.

According to Dela, there are still few educational institutions in Indonesia that deeply explore the dynamic relationship between law and technology.

A scholarship recipient for a master's degree from the Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP) shared their experience at Leiden University. They had the chance to explore topics like digital technology, cybersecurity, data protection, internet governance, and the ethical challenges posed by emerging innovations.

"I am very grateful to President University and the LPDP scholarship program for allowing me to deepen my knowledge," they said.

They noted that in Indonesia, the number of legal experts specializing in law and technology is expected to grow, especially in data protection. They believe that regulations in this area are still in the early stages and face various challenges and opportunities for development.

"I am highly motivated to be part of this evolving field. Both the Netherlands and Indonesia follow a Civil Law System, and I am particularly interested in how aspects of the Indonesian legal system trace back to the Dutch East Indies, including the Civil Code. The historical connection and the potential to adopt and adapt new insights into our legal framework, including integrating them into technology law, fascinates me," they explained.

Leiden, known for its vibrant student community, is very appealing to Dela. The idea of being part of an international academic community, surrounded by students from diverse backgrounds, promises a rich environment for learning and personal growth.

Additionally, its geographical location between Amsterdam and The Hague offers Dela the perfect balance.

Dela also expressed deep appreciation for President University, where they earned their law degree. They believe that President University has laid an invaluable foundation for their academic and professional growth.
