The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, during her scientific oration at the Open Session of Brawijaya University, articulated a grand vision for the digital economy as a primary driver towards Indonesia's Golden Era in 2045.

In her address titled “Digital Economy: Opportunities and Challenges Towards Indonesia's Golden Era,” the Minister highlighted that digital transformation has the potential to generate a digital economic value of up to USD 360 billion by 2030, which would represent one-third of the digital economy value in ASEAN.

“The current trajectory of Indonesia's digital economy is positive, with digital transactions projected to reach USD 90 billion by 2024, making it the largest in Southeast Asia,” stated Meutya Hafid at the Samantha Krida Building in Malang on Sunday, January 5, 2025, according to an official statement. Meutya noted that the e-commerce sector leads with an 11% growth rate and a transaction value of USD 65 billion, driven by innovations such as video commerce. “We are committed to accelerating an inclusive, empowering, and sovereign digital transformation,” she remarked.

Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the significance of developing digital infrastructure, nurturing digital talent, and implementing adaptive governance to strengthen the national digital economy. In her oration, Meutya underscored three key pillars of digital transformation:

1. Digital Infrastructure: Ensuring equitable access and enhancing internet speed across Indonesia.

2. Digital Talent: Aiming for 9 million digital talents by 2030 through the Digital Talent Scholarship program.

3. Governance of the Digital Ecosystem: Creating a safe and sustainable digital space.

Recognizing the vast potential of the digital economy, she encouraged the academic community of Brawijaya University to actively engage in its development through collaboration among academics, government, and the business sector. “Universities hold significant potential in building local and national digital ecosystems,” Meutya concluded.
