Airlangga Offers Russia Investment Opportunities In Special Economic Zones

Tuesday, 10 Dec 2024

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has extended an invitation to Russia to invest in Indonesia's Special Economic Zones (SEZs). He indicated that there are SEZs particularly suitable for the strategic industries that Russia possesses.

"I would like to thank the Russian Ambassador, and I believe we can provide you with a top list of Special Economic Zones for you to consider, especially for the strategic industries you have from Russia," stated Airlangga during the Indonesia SEZ Business Forum 2024 held at the St. Regis Hotel in Jakarta on Monday, December 9, 2024.

Regrettably, Airlangga did not specify which SEZs he was proposing to Russia. Among those with limited investment are the Tanjung Kelayang SEZ in Bangka Belitung, the Morotai SEZ in North Maluku, and the Arun Lhokseumawe SEZ in Aceh.

"Today's meeting is crucial for realizing the investments that the government has allocated for these SEZs. It is now time for the SEZs to market themselves, capitalize on investment opportunities, and develop each respective zone," he remarked.

Currently, the government has established approximately 24 SEZs across various sectors, including manufacturing, digital economy, healthcare, and education. This year, investments amounting to IDR 242.5 trillion have been recorded, creating 151,000 jobs and involving 394 business entities.

The government is offering a range of incentives for investors who commit capital to the SEZs, including tax relief, regulatory ease, and adequate infrastructure access.

Previously, Airlangga undertook a working visit and engaged in several bilateral meetings in Moscow, Russia, from June 10 to 12, 2024. During this visit, he met with Andrey Slepnev, the Minister of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
