Thursday, 21 Nov 2024

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) (IDX: PGEO) is committed to renewable energy development through a strategic partnership with Universitas Pertamina (UPER) and The University of Auckland (UoA). The three parties have officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for a capacity development program aimed at enhancing the skills of PGE officers in geothermal technology.

The agreement was signed during PGE's visit to New Zealand on November 20, by PGE's President Director Julfi Hadi, UPER's Vice Rector for Research, Development, and Cooperation Prof. Dr. techn. Djoko Triyono, and UoA's Faculty of Engineering Dean Associate Professor Richard Clarke.

This initiative is part of the Geothermal Energy Knowledge and Technology Based Advancement Certification (Geo-Elevate) program, which focuses on capacity building essential for maximizing PGE's geothermal reserve potential of 3 GW. As a key player in achieving Indonesia's energy independence, PGE is dedicated to promoting sustainable energy transition and supporting its vision to make Indonesia a Geothermal Center of Excellence.

Julfi Hadi stated that this collaboration is a significant step for PGE to ensure its human resources can compete not only nationally but also possess global competencies in developing environmentally friendly and sustainable geothermal energy. "By combining local and global expertise, we are committed to strengthening Indonesia's role as a Geothermal Center of Excellence worldwide," said Julfi Hadi.

The program aims to produce skilled professionals through a mix of academic study and practical experience. Participants will undergo advanced certification training in Geothermal Energy Technology at UoA for four months, followed by one month of intensive training at UPER, tailored to industry needs.

As a leading university globally, UoA offers program participants the chance to learn directly from international experts in geothermal energy. Meanwhile, UPER will provide participants with local insights through innovative approaches that utilize green technology and nature-based solutions.

Elvie Qorina, Vice President of Human Capital & Business Support at PGE, noted that this program reflects PGE's commitment to supporting government initiatives aimed at achieving energy self-sufficiency, particularly in geothermal energy, and leading the energy transition towards Net Zero Emission. "To achieve this, we need to develop human resources, especially by accelerating the capabilities of PGE officers to reach world-class standards, so that PGE's goal of becoming a global Center of Geothermal can be realized," Elvie stated.

Prof. Dr. techn. Djoko Triyono expressed, "By implementing a sustainability-based curriculum, Universitas Pertamina supports the development of clean energy in line with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Our collaboration with PGE and UoA demonstrates our commitment to creating a generation of experts capable of addressing sustainability challenges and supporting energy transformation in Indonesia."

Additionally, Richard Clarke remarked, "We are pleased to be part of this collaboration. As one of the world's top geothermal research centers, we are dedicated to providing participants with access to industry best practices and preparing them for future challenges. This initiative shows that cross-border collaboration can drive innovation and sustainability in the energy sector."

This partnership is a clear demonstration of PGE's commitment to enhancing human resource competencies, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainability. Through this program, PGE reinforces its role as a leader in the energy transition in Indonesia.
